Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard CA
244 AM PDT Sat Jul 19 2025

.SYNOPSIS...19/212 AM.

Showers and thunderstorms will be possible again this afternoon
across the Los Angeles county mountains. Otherwise, night through
morning low clouds and fog will continue for most coast and some
valleys into next week. A slow cooling trend will continue through
Tuesday. Then a warming trend will bring temperatures back to
normal by the end of next week.

&&

.SHORT TERM (TDY-MON)...19/235 AM.

Moisture aloft has been decreasing since reaching its peak Friday
afternoon and this will mean less active afternoon convection
today, though can`t rule out some isolated heavy rain showers,
especially during the peak heating period. Any showers and storms
today are expected to be confined to the eastern San Gabriel
Mountains. Steering flow is still very light from the northeast so
any convection that develops over the mountains should not spill
over into the adjacent valleys.

Outside of the eastern San Gabriels, weather today is expected to
be fairly quiet, starting off with typical morning low clouds for
coast and some coastal valleys, then clearing most areas except
for some beaches. The Antelope Valley will reach the lower triple
digits again this afternoon, which is a degree or two above
normal, but most other areas will be slightly below normal once
again.

Cooling temperatures are expected again Sunday and Monday as a
weak upper low settles in for a few days just off the northern
California coast.

.LONG TERM (TUE-FRI)...19/243 AM.

High confidence in quiet weather next week with limited if any
impacts. Below normal temperatures are expected, though a gradual
warming trend is expected to start Wednesday with 1-3 degrees of
warming each day through Friday. Night and morning low clouds and
fog will be a daily feature for coast and many valleys, clearing
to near the the beaches by afternoon.

.AVIATION...19/0913Z.

Around 0715Z, the marine layer depth was around 1600 feet deep at
KLAX. The top of the marine inversion was near 2200 feet with a
temperature around 19 degrees Celsius. There was another inversion
above up to around 3900 feet.

Moderate to high confidence in the current forecast. Higher
confidence in the current forecast for terminals north of Point
Conception. Lower confidence for terminals south of Point
Conception.

There is a moderate chance of periods of VFR conditions at times
through 18Z due to middle and high level clouds moving over the
region and playing tricks on the marine layer depth. Otherwise, IFR
to MVFR conditions are expected through at least 16Z at most
terminals with a moderate chance of lingering into the afternoon
hours at coastal terminals. A better chance of and earlier return
of IFR to MVFR conditions should be expected for coastal and
valley terminals through Sunday morning.

KLAX...There is a 40 percent chance of periods of VFR conditions
through 18Z, otherwise IFR to MVFR conditions are expected
through at least 16Z, or as late as 18Z. Higher confidence in
placed in the MVFR category versus IFR category. IFR to MVFR
conditions could return as soon as 00Z Sunday, or as late as 05Z
Sunday. Higher confidence in predominantly MVFR condition after
12Z Sunday.

KBUR... VFR conditions are expected through at least 04Z Sunday. IFR
to MVFR conditions could move into KBUR as soon as 04Z Sunday, or
as late as 10Z Sunday.

&&

.MARINE...19/214 AM.

Overall, moderate to high confidence in the current forecast.

For the waters southwest through northwest of the Channel Islands
and beyond 10 NM of the Central Coast, there is a high-to-likely
(50-70 percent) chance of Small Craft Advisory (SCA) level winds
developing each afternoon and evening evening through Thursday
evening. There will likely be a lull in winds below SCA levels
during the late night and early morning hours each day. Increasing
winds and building seas are expected for late next week with a
moderate chance of Gales.

For the nearshore waters north of Point Sal,For the inner waters
north of Point Sal, there is a high-to-likely (50-60 percent)
chance of SCA level winds this afternoon and evening. For Sunday
afternoon through Wednesday evening, there is a moderate (30-40
percent) chance of SCA level winds during the afternoon and
evening hours, increasing to a high-to-likely chance late next
week.

Inside the southern California bight, For the inner waters south
of Point Conception, there is a moderate (30-40 percent) chance
of SCA level winds through Wednesday night, except for a high-to-
likely (50-60 percent) chance of SCA level winds across the
western half of the Santa Barbara Channel this afternoon and
evening, and again Wednesday afternoon and evening.
